The BrailleNet Evaluation Method for Web Accessibility: an expert-centered approach - slide "The BrailleNet Association (France, www.braillenet.org)"

The Internet can constitute a powerful tool for inclusion.
For visually impaired people (VIP), it allows to access services that were traditionally out of reach.
The BrailleNet Association was set up to develop this potential in three main domains :
- access to information,
- access to education,
- access to culture.
It is a non profit association (French law 1901).
It was born from the research public sector (INOVA laboratory from INSERM).
More than 50 organisms (public and private sector) are members.
Involved in national and European funded projects for the visually impaired people.
Specific actions on Web accessibility since 1997 as:
- setting up a department with Web accessibility specialists,
- training and setting up a network of organisms working on Web accessibility,
- participant in good standing in Education and Outreach Working Group (W3C/WAI)
- subcontractor of W3C/WAI for WAI-DE, WAI-DA and WAI-TIES,
- launch of a Quality mark certifying accessibility of Web sites : the AccessiWeb label,
- member of the EuroAccessibility Consortium.
Services on Web accessibility: public information, training, evaluation, certification.
